View Transformation of Project ︎︎︎
Artist Statment:
Do Robots dream of electronic Hamburgers engages with themes of Asian futurism and American consumerism, utilizing the imagery of a transformer—a symbol of Asian representation in American media. This work is a direct reference to Blade runner, a story that commodifies and flattens Asian culture into an aesthetic dystopian background of a Western hero. Through this work, I aim to provoke thoughts on the relationship between representation and consumption, displaying how we perceive and engage with cultural symbols.
This piece will stand at 8 ft tall, created using felt applique and visible embroidery. the front of this tapestry will display the transformer. the transformer will fold up and behind its image this figure will transform into a cow.
