Artist Statment:
Looking at popularized kung fu movies, such as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, this image portrays an Asian female kung fu master outside of the context of her genre. Instead of participating in a sword battle in a bamboo forest, she is challenged to a jousting match against a medieval Dragon. She takes the place of a knight, and their battle wages across a Western landscape. The shadows cast during their battle, influenced by Chinese shadow puppet theater, expose the true peril lurking behind the dragon's facade, hinting at a deeper, more mystical danger.
