Kites That Dont Fly
This series of kites is constructed from hand-split bamboo and hand-stitched felt. Created from
traditional japanese and korean crafting techniques, alongside scandinavian felt applique these
kites are an amalgamation of cross cultural tradition. hung in a gallery setting, the
kites will appear frozen in mid-flight. Traditionally, kites symbolize youth, freedom, and the
exhilaration of open skies. However, within the gallery context, their stillness becomes essential
to the work’s meaning. Instead of soaring, these kites remain confined within the exhibition; an
image of entrapment, lost potential, and the quiet yearning for an unreachable dream.
