This piece consists of a wooden bed frame and cushion both in the shape and size of a nude female body. This work focuses on concepts relating to human touch and connection. The work questions the human desire of finding comfort with others, despite being vulnerable to misuse. This work depends on audience interaction. The top pillow of the piece is constructed out of bed sheets, and provides a familiar comforting touch to its audience. The nipples on the figure are molded in the shape of buttons and are constructed of dragon skin silicone. These tactile elements of the piece invite viewers to touch, grab and interact with the human form. The piece depends on this interaction, as it directly displays the theme of human touch and its effect. Due to the figure’s nudity, seeing others grab the “nipples” or the chest of the figure, creates an uncomfortable reaction in the viewers. Likewise as an audience member touching the softness of the piece brings you a sense of comfort. The work relies on these themes of comfort versus discomfort and questions the way we internalize the touch of others.
